COOKIE CUTTER
Cookie Cutter, ka·nei·see | collective and Tanya Chianese's choreographic evening-length debut, premiered in early 2015 to sold-out houses and a front page cover story of the SF Chronicle's 96 Hours that described the work as “accessible and provocative, as well as unafraid to meld innovation with time-honored dance conventions.” (Nirmala Nataraj, Jan 2015).
Cookie Cutter investigates the positive and negative nuances of its subject, from figuratively exploring what it means to be predictable, recycled, and not unique to literally referencing cookie cutters and the delicacies they shape. An evening of dichotomies in space, manufactured moments, childhood laughs, rawness, and freedom within boundaries.
